Because you were Pokemon hunting over the weekend, you’d be forgiven for not knowing that the Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre and Market (BPHC) was officially opened! Although only in operation for a few months before the official launch, some of the food stalls have already gained recognition, both in terms of taste as well as affordable pricing. We give you the quick background and the top 7 Must Try Dishes At The New Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre.
Managed by NTUC Foodfare with the aim of meeting residents’ needs for quality, tasty and affordable food, the BPHC in NTUC Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing’s words is an example of how “NTUC social enterprises are widening their social footprint to provide relevant, accessible and affordable services to our working people.”
BPHC has price caps on two basic meals per stall in place to meet the needs of the budget conscious and needy. In addition, Comcare cardholders would be able to purchase a full meal consisting of 2 vegetables and 1 meat dish at a concession rate of $1.50 from Rice Garden, a social outreach programme initiated by NTUC Foodfare in 2009. Rice Garden currently has 27 outlets in Singapore and NTUC Foodfare aims to raise this number to 40 by end this year.
