The Mongol Khan To Make Asia Premiere At MBS Singapore

Based on different historical events that took place in Central Asia 3000 years ago, the epic Mongolian theatrical production, The Mongol Khan, will make its Asia Premiere in Singapore at Sands Theatre from 17 October 2024. Following a sell-out season at The London Coliseum in 2023, this is the first time a Mongolian theatrical production will take stage in Singapore. Tickets are now on sale.

Showcasing a large-scale production with lavish sets and costumes, The Mongol Khan will be performed by an ensemble of over 70 actors, dancers and musicians. Inspired by the evolution of the Mongolian culture, it presents a gripping tale of a brutal succession that threatens the essence of an Empire. The Mongol Khan has all the ingredients of a classic tragedy: jealousy, mistaken identity, adultery, rivalry, sacrifice, succession, and a power struggle. With the stability of an empire at stake, the story culminates in an epic battle for the future of the Hunnic Empire.

The Mongol Khan is a theatrical spectacle with a multi-sensory feast that is brought to life through a haunting original score, dramatic storytelling, dance and puppetry – experiences audiences have never seen before.

Presented by Asia Pacific’s leading live entertainment company, Base Entertainment Asia, Chief Executive Officer, Chantal Prudhomme said, “We are thrilled to bring the splendour and cultural richness of Mongolia through The Mongol Khan to our audience in Singapore and beyond in Asia. We strive to present world-class productions that resonate with diverse audiences. The Mongol Khan is a powerful story with a unique blend of entertainment and historical insight, and we are confident that it will not only captivate and inspire audiences in Singapore, but also further strengthen cultural connections between the nations”.

The production of The Mongol Khan is a collaboration between an international team of world-renowned artists and creatives including Tony-nominated playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker (Our Country’s Good, Three Birds Alighting On A Field), Olivier and Tony Award-winning Nick Barnes (Life of Pi, The Lorax), and the prolific historian and travel writer John Man, an expert in Mongolian history and culture.

Originally written in 1998 by renowned Mongolian writer and poet Lkhagvasuren Bavuuand revived in April 2022 at the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Drama, The Mongol Khan draws inspiration from various historical events, archaeological findings, traditional nomadic dances, and the music of the ancient Hun culture of Central Asia from the period of the Hunnic Empire. Produced by Bayra Bela (Amazon’s The Power, Netflix’s Marco Polo) and directed by venerated Mongolian director Hero Baatar, this production promises to be a memorable event.
