Join us as we spill the rare fire and ice Pokemon to catch and how you can max your XP earnings during the event!

‘With summer quickly approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and winter approaching in the Southern Hemisphere, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the upcoming solstices than with a Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon GO event.’ – Niantic.

1. Get Your Pokeballs Ready For Fire & Ice Pokemon

One of the biggest difference between this and past events is the increased spawn of more than one Pokemon Type. While Ghost Type Pokemon was the focus for Halloween, this new event goes for two at once.

Before the event goes live, you should have stocked up enough Pokeballs to take advantage of increased spawn rates for Fire-type and Ice-type Pokemon.

2. What Exactly Will You Be Catching?

Though not officially mentioned by Niantic, we expect to see increased encounter rates for these Pokemon in the game:

FIRE: Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Vulpix, Ninetails, Growlithe, Arcanine, Ponyta, Rapidash, Magmar, Flareon, Cyndaquil, Quilava, Typhlosion, Slugma, Magcargo, Houndoor and Houndoom.

ICE: Seel, Dewgong, Shelder, Cloyster, Jynx, Lapras, Sneasel, Swinub and Piloswine.

3. Throw Your Pokemon With A Twist!

Niantic has finally decided to make trainers brush up their Pokeball skills. Trainers who are able to throw curveballs will be able to enjoy special XP bonus for Nice Throws, Great Throws and Excellent Throws!

4. Additional Perks For Hatching Eggs

Trainers should work on their cardio during the event as well because XP bonuses are also earned when hatching Pokemon Eggs.

6. Milk Your XP!

Special discounts off Lucky Eggs can only mean one thing – time to milk your XP! It is time to start stocking up on candies and load your inventory with Pokemon such as Rattata and Pidgey for mass evolutions as soon as possible. Given that trainers will see huge XP bonuses for throwing Pokeballs accurately, you may want to test which method earns you better returns per Lucky Egg.

7. Focus On Catching, Not Fighting

Niantic shared that they may be temporarily disabling Pokemon GO Gyms for a short period of time during or after the event. This is to allow the team can prepare for a new update focused on collaborative group gameplay features that will get you playing Pokémon GO in fun new ways. When Gyms are temporarily disabled, all Pokémon will return to their Trainers. Trainers can focus on catching and developing their Pokemon during this period.
