With the increase in social media, and pictures of people working out on channels such as Instagram, the rise in people working out has increased drastically. There are many reasons for this, and everyone has different goals based on the images they seem. Some may want a more muscled body, some may want to lose weight, or they might simply want to tonne up.

People will often take up activities based on their goals. People with a goal for a leaner physique may opt for high-intensity workouts and running as it helps them to burn a lot of calories. People with the goal to remain on the bulkier side take up sports like weightlifting and strength training.

All types of sport and exercise have a risk of injuries. one of the most common types of injuries is ankle sprains. Ankle sprains might happen at most unfortunate times. You might be running on the treadmill or on the track, completing your lap and all of sudden you get tripped over and you end up with a sprained ankle.

Sprained ankles can be very painful and often can be triggered by the smallest wrong move. . .  It does not have to be only while playing or running,  you might get a sprained ankle, but it might also happen if you happen to trip over uneven pavement.

Most people panic and rush for the physiotherapist in the slightest case of a sprain. It is always to seek the help of a professional but you must also know the first steps before reaching out to a physiotherapist.

First of all, check if the sprain is a mild sprain or a severe one. You can check this by the pain caused by the sprain. If the pain is somewhat manageable and you can limp on that leg then you can treat it at home also.  If not, then it might be a good idea to make an appointment with a physio.

Also, in some cases, the pain is not that severe when you have sprained an ankle but it gradually increases and that is the moment you realize that you should not have ignored the sprain. So, consulting a physiotherapist is always advisable if you have even the slightest doubt of having sprained your ankle.

If the ankle sprain is mild, then you can try a few days of taking it easy.. You might get swelling on the sprained ankle and it is normal. There is nothing to panic about. Even the best physiotherapists in Dubai will advise you the same. So just go home and apply some ice or anti-inflammatory cream on the sprained ankle. It usually takes three to four days for the swelling to go away and the pain to subside. During these three to four days you must be very careful and try to use the sprained ankle as less as possible.

Also, you must ensure that the sprained ankle is getting proper rest and care. You must not put any kind of load on that sprained ankle as it may only worsen the condition. You can consider using crutches to avoid limping on that leg is limping may further the ligament damage. If you are still feeling uncomfortable then you must get an appointment with a physiotherapist. Trained and qualified physiotherapists are used to handle such situations and will give you proper care.
