The global phenomenon, “MAMMA MIA!” is Judy Craymer’s ingenious vision of staging the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs with a sunny, funny tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads unfolding on a Greek island idyll. Previously presented here in 2014 and 2018, “MAMMMA MIA!” remains to be one of Singapore’s favourite musicals across these years and beyond, as it continues to attract audiences off all ages to come back for more.
The hugely successful English-language International Tour premiered in Dublin in September 2004 and, to date, has visited 41 countries, performed more than 3,500 shows and has been seen by over 7 million people. In 2011 MAMMA MIA! became the first Western musical ever to be staged in Mandarin in the People’s Republic of China and became the 8th longest running show in Broadway history where it played a record-breaking run for 14 years.
The narrative power of more than 22 of ABBA’s greatest hits, including “Dancing Queen”, “Take A Chance On Me”, “The Winner Takes It All”, “Does Your Mother Know” and of course “Mamma Mia”, propels “MAMMA MIA!’s” charming story of love, laughter and friendship.
Produced by Judy Craymer, “MAMMA MIA!” The Movie became the highest grossing live action musical film of all time upon its release in 2008. A second film, “MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN”, opened in July 2018 and is the most successful live musical movie sequel of all time.
With music & lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, “MAMMA MIA!” is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The production is designed by Mark Thompson, with lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce & Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material & arrangements by Martin Koch. “MAMMA MIA!” is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East & Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal and NGM and presented in Singapore by Base Entertainment Asia under the direction of Chantal Prudhomme.
Breaking Records Since It Started!
23 March 1999. MAMMA MIA! the Musical received its first ever paying audience at the Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End. On 18 October 2001 MAMMA MIA! the Musical opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre.
Since then, MAMMA MIA! the Musical grossed over $4 BILLION at the box office and premiered in more than 450 MAJOR CITIES worldwide, faster than any other musical in history. MAMMA MIA! the Musical Cast Recording has gone DOUBLE PLATINUM in several territories around the world. 8 foreign language productions of MAMMA MIA! also have Cast Recordings – in German, Dutch, Spanish, Swedish, Korean, French, Chinese and Japanese.
For the 2018 Singapore season, together with presenter Base Entertainment Asia, the MAMMA MIA! the Musical production set a record for the Largest Outdoor Zumba Class in the SINGAPORE BOOK OF RECORDS.
