So we finally got Pokémon Go in Singapore, you have spent a good few hours catching Pokémon and moving up the levels, and now you are at Level 5! It’s time to choose a team! But which Pokemon Team is the best and why? Does it really make much difference now? Will you miss out if you choose one team over another? All good questions, for which the game provides little in the way of answers. You are lucky that we are here to help demystify the situation a little. Here’s everything you need to know about Pokémon Go teams, their team leaders, and pretty much anything else worth being informed about.
1. Introducing The 3 Teams
The moment you hit level 5 and you tap on a gym, you’ll be asked to choose between three different factions:Valor (Red), Mystic (Blue) and Instinct (Yellow). Pokemon Go has just announced the team leaders. Here’s what they stand for:
Team Valor (Red) – Candela (Leader) & Moltres (Mascot)
Pokémon are stronger than humans, and they’re warm-hearted too! I’m researching ways to enhance Pokémon‘s natural power in the pursuit of true strength. There’s no doubt that the Pokémon our team have trained are the strongest in battle! Are you ready?
Team Mystic (Blue) – Blanche (Leader) & Articuno (Mascot)
The wisdom of Pokémon is immeasurably deep. I am researching why they evolve. My team? With our calm analysis of every situation, we can’t lose!
Team Instinct (Yellow) – Spark (Leader) & Zapdos (Mascot)
Pokémon are creatures with excellent intuition. I bet the secret to their intuition is related to how they’re hatched. Come on and join my team! You never lose when you trust your instincts!
2. What’s Your Persona?
Your personal persona comes into play here. There are some players who want to lend a hand to the underdog, in some sort of symbolic act of nobility and others that go with the big boys with the largest number of followers. In which case, you might want to check out some stats before deciding.
Adobe recently conducted some research, using social mentions to get an idea of which team was most popular. The result was that team Mystic came out on top, with 45% of all social media discussion devoted to the Blue faction. Elsewhere, Team Valor (Red) came in second with 32%, and Instinct (Yellow) managed a mere 25%. Of course, this isn’t anywhere near official, but if you were wondering which one to choose, Adobe’s ‘research’ might help tip the balance.
3. Your Community Matters
Yes, your surrounding community is an important element in helping you decide which team you want to be with. Check out the gyms which are convenient for you (eg your home or workplace) and which team they belong to. Trust us, it would make life so much easier for you.
Once you join a team, you can assign Pokémon you’ve caught to an open Gym or to a Gym where a team member has placed one of his or her Pokémon. Like PokéStops, Gyms can be found at real locations in the world. Each player can place only one Pokémon at a particular Gym, so you’re encouraged to work with others on the team to build up a strong defence.
4. Jio Your Kakis
Of course, your game kakis matter as well, we would recommend that you pick the same team as your friends. You can all meet up and try to take down gyms together. Once you claim a gym, you can then spar against one another to build up your Pokémon’s CP, or character points. It’s a handy way of ensuring your pokemon stays tough enough to compete in the wider Pokéverse, so it’s worth checking with your friends before you decide on a team, to see which side they have sworn allegiance to.
5. Possible Team Benefits
YouTube InfamousJaleelGaming recently posted a video that explains the benefits of each of the team. While this isn’t confirmed by Pokemon Go yet, it could be a hidden gem. The alleged benefits are as follows:
– Team Instinct (Yellow): Eggs when hatched will be at higher CP and will be given more candies than Mystic and Valor
– Team Mystic (Blue): When evolving Pokemon, Mystic members will have a higher CP after evolutions
– Team Valor (Red): Able to catch Pokemon with a higher CP at a better catch rate than Instinct and Mystic.
If the above is true, then some of the teams have an edge over others in the course of the game. For example, Instinct and Valor are pretty much at a disadvantage in terms of the benefits at the later parts of the game since hatched Pokemon cap is level 20 and wild Pokemon cap is 30. Team Mystic members, on the other hand, enjoys the better end of the bargain as their benefit is useful at any point in the game.
6. Rare Pokemon Potential
As you can see each team has its own mascot which is one of the legendary birds. If the rumours are true, and Pokemon Go is planning to make the birds available based on your choice of team, it remains unclear how this will work. Could it be that whichever team owns the most gyms will have a chance to catch their beast first or the team which you select will determine the legendary bird that would eventually be made available to you? We will have to wait and see. It could all be rubbish, of course, but it’s something to bear in mind when deciding which team deserves your talents.
7. Switching Teams
Unfortunately, this is not an option. Once you pick a team, at least for now, you are stuck with it. You can always create a new account and sign up for a different team that way, but you will obviously be without the current pokemon you have now and will have to work your way back up the levels. Traitors have not been catered for in Pokémon Go.
These are the information that you have to find out before selecting your team (if you do not want to regret in the near future) We hope you find the tips on team selection useful. Have fun and stay safe while playing the game!
