The Fullerton Hotel’s Town Restaurant, together with Taj Cape Town and South African Airways, will bring you on a gastronomical journey to discover the fascinating South African cuisine from 21 to 27 April 2014.
Traversing the globe to present the best from their country in Singapore – in conjunction with South Africa’s 20th Freedom Day on 27 April 2014 – are Guest Chefs Vivian Gary Solomon and Lloyd Mark De Stadler from Taj Cape Town, one of the city’s finest luxury hotels.
Vivian and Lloyd shared that South African cuisine is often referred to as “rainbow cuisine” as it emerged from the amalgamation of the country’s indigenous culture and its multifaceted history of immigration and colonialism. Shaped by the nation’s cultural diversity, its colourful cuisine is influenced by a wide variety of sources, including British, Dutch, French, German, Malay, Indian and Arab cuisines.
The unique bounty of South African flavours and authentic dishes will be on showcase at the buffet. From traditional breads Roosterkoek and Potbrood, Bobotie; the national dish of South Africa consisting of spiced minced meat baked with a custard topping,
Seafood Potjie; a hearty stew cooked in a cast iron pot, Braised Beef with Port Sauce and Chicken, Bacon & Banana Kebabs with Spicy Marinadeto Creamed Morogo (wild spinach), celebrate the occasion with the South African community in Singapore through indulging in its cuisine.
You will also be able to savour delicious South African desserts such as Souskluitjies (Sweet Dumplings), Amarula Panna Cotta, Sultana Pudding and Coconut Tartlets alongside cheeses specially brought in from the country.
Apart from the exceptional South African spread, Town Restaurant’s international selection of seafood on ice will also be available on the buffet line.
