4 Tips for Experiencing Busan in South Korea

If you want a destination that is somewhere between Seoul and Jeju, then you should include Busan in your list of places to go in Korea. It only takes a little over two hours by train to get there from Seoul. If you are unfamiliar with the place, here are some tips for having the best time there.

1. Plan your itinerary

Busan is one of the most popular destinations in South Korea. It is a very big city and there is so much to do. Depending on how many days you will spend there, plan your itinerary accordingly. For a 3 day visit, you can visit popular tourist spots like Gamcheon Cultural Village and Haeundae Beach. 2. Do a little research on their culture

When you travel to a new country, it is inevitable that there will be cultural differences. Make sure to read up on the things you should not be doing so that you do not make a faux pas when you get there. In Korea, for example, your shoes should not be brought inside the house or even in some public establishments. They also regard their seniors with respect so make sure to act accordingly when with people who are older than you.

3. Learn some basic Korean words

This is a basic tip for travelling to any foreign country. You don’t have to be well-versed or even be able to carry on a conversation with a native, but it would be helpful to know some words. Words like annyeonghaseyo (hello), kamsahamnida (thank you),  juseyo (please), odieyo (where is the ). If you are going to buy souvenirs, you need to say olmayi (how much is it) and kaka juseyo ( give me a discount). If you are having a hard time learning a new language, download an app that can translate English into the Korean language. Also, it is good to have your itinerary with you. Have a list of the places you will go to and if you get lost, point out the word (in Korean) to someone so that they can point you to where you need to go.

4. Don’t miss out on trying some of the fresh seafood at Jagalchi fish market

One of the things you should never miss on your trip to Busan is the food! You will find the largest port in the whole of South Korea in the city of Busan so you can expect the freshest seafood here. It’s a really big market so you can take your time looking through all the seafood they have to offer. When you get hungry, the second floor of the market is like a large open restaurant. All you need to do is buy the food that you want to eat, have it cooked (or cut if you are leaning more towards sushi), and then enjoy it at the restaurant upstairs. If you want something exotic, try eating some octopus! Just make sure to chew properly so that those tentacles won’t get stuck in your mouth!
