Beginner Tips for Starting Crossfit Exercise

If you’ve never tried crossfit, you may be wondering what it is. Essentially, crossfit is a workout style that combines short bursts of high-intensity activity. In crossfit, the entire body is active and engaged, building skills and abilities such as agility, strength, cardio, and endurance. Once you get serious about it, there are scaled crossfit competitions in which you can compete!  Here are a few bits of advice for those who are interested in getting started in crossfit.

You don’t know what your body will do

Even if you are accustomed to working out, it’s very likely that you are going to be in for a shock when you start your crossfit journey. Your body is going to have to learn a whole new way of moving. If your foray into crossfit is your first time dipping your toe into the fitness waters, go slowly! Go at your own pace and don’t try to mimic what the person next to you is doing.

Everyone’s bodies and abilities are different, and it’s important to customise your workout to suit your abilities and fitness level.

Ask for help

When you first start out on your crossfit adventure, it’s very likely you won’t know what you’re doing. That’s a good recipe for injuring yourself. It’s best to start out under the guidance of someone who knows what they’re doing. And we aren’t just talking about your fitness-minded best friend. Unless she’s a fitness coach or trainer, she probably doesn’t have the particular skills needed to ensure you are working out safely and smartly. Your gym probably has fitness coaches on staff who can help you get going.

There’s no shame in asking for help, and you’ll minimise the chances of your getting hurt if you proceed under the guidance of a pro.

Trust yourself and give yourself time

Remember: Everyone was a beginner at some point. Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s end. Give yourself the time you need to work up to the level you want to be at, and know that it’s going to take time, effort, and probably a measure of patience to get to where you want to be, but as with anything, the struggles are wort it if you really want to achieve the goal.

The important thing is to focus on your fitness goals and know that you can get there. Ask for help, take advice, and put in the work and you’ll be well on your way to success.

Get the right gear

One of the first things you should do before you step foot into the gym is to make sure you have the right gear. We’re not suggesting you go out and spend all kinds of money to buy all of the trappings of a professional crossfit athlete, but there are some basics that you should have in your arsenal before you start. One of the most important of these is a good, solid, properly fitted pair of crossfit shoes.

Go into it with the right attitude

The old saying is that attitude is everything, right? The same is true of embarking on a new crossfit adventure. Whether you are doing crossfit just to get in shape or whether you have your eye set on competing, the number-one thing to remember is that you need to go into the process with a good attitude. A can-do attitude. It sounds cliché, but if you go into your workout with the attitude that you can accomplish your goals, you’re already partway there.

Crossfit can be a phenomenal way to get in shape and to challenge your body in different ways. Who knows? You just might fall in love with it and end up registering for a competition! Even if you just want to try a new way of working out, however, crossfit can be fun and exciting. The important things are to be safe, to get help when you need it, and to go into the process with the attitude of a winner! If you can manage to do that, you’ll have all of the ingredients you need to have a successful and enjoyable crossfit workout.
