Mount Coot-tha – Bird’s Eye View Of Brisbane City

Tourists are often drawn to high vantage points where they can get to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city. Located 7 kilometres west of Brisbane, Mount Coot-tha is a 287 metres peak where one can see all the way to Moreton Bay in the east and the Glass House Mountains in the west on a clear day. Getting there from the city is pretty easy with Bus 471 from Adelaide Street.

Early Brisbane people called it One Tree Hill when bush at the top of the hill was cleared except for one large eucalyptus tree. It was renamed ‘Coot-tha’ or ‘Kuta’ was taken from the Aboriginal name for the area which meant ‘honey’ or ‘the place of wild honey’ after being declared Public Recreation Reserve in 1880

Today, the single large eucalyptus tree has been replaced by a lone pavilion where tourists can climb up for the best views.
