Always On The Lookout For Talents

Many financial institutions in Singapore are experiencing shortages for suitably skilled talents to fuel the rapid industry growth. Despite the annual talent supply from local tertiary institutions, the sector still turns to foreign trained talents regularly to make up for the shortfall.

Recently, the private banking sector in particular came under the limelight. The sector has created good quality jobs and now employs about 9,000 people, two thirds of which are Singaporean citizens. The positions available include business management, client relationship, risk management, compliance and back office functions.

The future of the private banking sector for Singaporeans was further affirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam in his statement that financial institutions in our country are aware of the need to develop a strong Singapore core in private bankingThe Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is also working with the industry to create opportunities for Singaporeans to build up the skills, experience in overseas markets and management capabilities required to excel in this sector.

Our local education scene is also sprucing up their programme offerings through partnerships with established foreign universities to support the development of more local talents for this fast growing sector. PSB Academy for instance, has partnered the prestigious University Of London to offer new degree programmes to meet these demands.
