C.A.R.E Teams Ready For Community Sports Festival 2014

Being a food lover, maintaining my weight and avoid getting fat is a constant challenge. To burn off my entire week worth of indulgence, I take to the wheels and explore the scenic Park Connectors Network (PCN) around Singapore over the weekends. Cycling is great for the waistline and it is a lot more fun than running. I get to burn off lots of calories during the ride and my metabolism is raised even after the ride is over. Furthermore, cycling is associated with improved cardiovascular fitness, as well as a decrease in the risk of coronary heart disease. To prove that I walk the talk, here’s the report card on my Eastern Coastal Park Connector Network Trip. Check out the calories burned!

Cycling Record

And the entire 51km trip was done on my trusty foldable Dahon Dove!

The motivation to do so? I get to enjoy the cool breeze and take in the meticulously landscaped paths along Punggol Waterway Park,

witness how uncles catch crabs and shrimps along streams flowing through Pasir Ris Park,

catch traditional bumboats heading out from Changi Jetty,

& enjoy the beautiful floral displays at Bougainvillea Garden (East Coast Park) along the journey.

What happens if it rains? Not an issue for me, I simply fold up my Dahon and hop onto any of Singapore’s public transport to get me home. What about you? Share with us your personal favourite sports in the comments section below too!

The Community Sports Festival Is Coming!

The Community Sports Festival (CSF) 2014 is a series of sports festivals organised by the Community Sports Club Council (CSC Council) and Community Sports Clubs (CSCs) in partnership with the various Grassroots Organisations. The sports festivals would be held between 16 March to 30 June, at various venues across the island.

The event aims to be a fun-filled, exciting event that attracts residents to participate in a series of sports, physical activities and other fringe activities that foster interaction and community bonding.

One of the highlights for this year’s CSF is the introduction of the Community Sports Challenge, a modified game adapted from the actual sport, to create wider outreach and interest to those who has never participated in a sport. The Community Sports Challenge’s emphasis on teamwork and promotes bonding and fun in their quest to be the best team in the competition. The challenges include Mini Pong, Archery Tag and Football. Each challenge is further divided into four categories which suit the different age groups: Children, Senior, Parent and Child and open categories. Challenger who sets the first record of each Sports Challenge of its categories wins the game.

Through the CSF, the residents would become more aware of the sports activities (such as brisk walking), sports interest groups, and volunteering opportunities that are available in their constituency or Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

Are You Ready For Community Game?

If the Community Sports Festive is not enough to satisfy your thirst for action, the good people at People’s Association, Community Sports Club Council and Community Sports Clubs have come together to engage the 7 National Sports Associations and bring Community Games to you!

The Community Games is a multi-sports competition held across the island. Featuring 7 popular sports – Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Football, Netball, Sepak Takraw and Table Tennis, Community Games hope to:

– Develop a strong and inclusive sporting culture with passion and enthusiasm from all walks of life

– Bring the Games to the heart of the community and connect residents of different ages, races and living across estates.

These 2 key objectives are well summarised into the “All C.A.R.E. Teams” concept. Community sports becomes a Channel to bridge and bond residents of different Ages, Races and Estates. This basically means that all participating teams must consist of members of different ages, races and living in different estates to participate in the Games.  The teams will compete at the cluster-level tournaments for each sport featured under Community Games.

Teams competing against one another, it kind of remind me of the Hunger Games!
